Personal Information

Jonny Wilson is first and foremost a product photographer, having specialised in that area of photography since his time at University where he found his love and passion for studio work. At the end of 2022, Jonny relocated and has taken on a larger studio space - a space he’s dreamed of for years. In his new studio (JNY Studios) he has the ability to host a team of people and he is now exploring the world of fashion and portrait photography.

Jonny’s favourite products to photograph are watches, he’s always been drawn to them from a young age - he even sold them at a retail store for two years while at university. While exploring the world of studio photography at university, he started photographing them for his projects. As his skills grew with photographing watches and other small objects, he realised the importance of using the best kit for the job and found that Broncolor had the widest range of precision lighting - something that would be key for photographing small objects - so that was the brand of lighting he decided to invest in.

Since being able to use Broncolor himself and use the modifiers, he’s constantly blown away by the quality of light that is given from them. The versatility of one flash head is immense, you really can do anything you envision with a broncolor kit.

The project that Jonny is most proud of is his exploded watch movement images. They were incredibly tricky to capture and it is probably the most unique work he’s done, as people only use renders of watch movements for other similar images. Jonny captured each piece individually, with a change in perspective so that it didn’t look too linear, and edited them together in post-production.

Since exploring fashion and portraits, Jonny has been able to borrow the Para 133 from Transcontinenta to test out. Given this was one of Jonny’s first fashion shoots, this modifier made it incredibly easy to achieve some stunning and flattering lighting on the models he was working with.
