Personal Information
Daan de Vos (1968) lives in Breda and specialises in macro and nature photography. Alongside his work as an anaesthesia assistant, he spends much of his free time in the countryside, where he seeks out the hidden beauty of the tiny world around us.
For over fifteen years, he has been photographing anything that catches his eye, but his greatest passion lies in macro photography. Insects, butterflies, mushrooms and other small wonders of nature form the basis of his visual language. For him, it is not just about capturing a subject, but above all about telling a story. Through the careful use of light, colour, atmosphere and interaction, he creates images that transport the viewer to a world that often goes unnoticed.
His approach is characterised by thorough preparation and a deep knowledge of his subjects. Daan immerses himself in the habitat, life cycle and behaviour of the species he photographs. This knowledge not only helps him to create extraordinary images, but also lends extra meaning to his photography.
As well as taking photographs, he enjoys sharing his passion with others. He gives talks at photography clubs, leads practical workshops and organises free mushroom photography days several times a year. These gatherings focus on sharing knowledge, inspiration and enjoyment. For Daan, photography is not only a creative outlet, but also a way of bringing people closer to nature and encouraging them to see their surroundings through different eyes.

"A photograph should do more than simply show a subject. It should tell a story, evoke emotions and invite the viewer to linger a little longer. Nature offers these stories day in, day out. All I have to do is bring them to life."
For his photography, Daan chooses only equipment he can fully rely on in all circumstances. In macro photography, stability, precision and reliability often make the difference between an ordinary shot and an exceptional image.
During his early mornings out in the field, he regularly works in damp conditions, on uneven ground and with extremely shallow depths of field. His kit must therefore not only be robust, but also offer maximum control. The products he uses support his creative approach and give him the freedom to focus entirely on light, composition and storytelling.
The combination of innovative products, high quality and reliability aligns perfectly with his philosophy: a photograph is created out in the field, not behind a computer. By making the most of his equipment, he strives to create images that have a strong visual impact straight out of the camera.
